‘Number’ can be a tricky concept to understand and so when asked to manipulate those ‘numbers’ to find other amounts; to find smaller parts as fractions/decimals; to solve a worded problem… bigger problems can surface and confidence in this subject lowers. Using a range of visual resources if required, one-to-one sessions could help to gain a greater understanding of the concepts of number; start to see the patterns that were just not seen before; reinforce the teaching of topics at school and raise confidence when tackling all other areas of this subject.
